As part of the High Seas campaign with greenpeaceap, we traveled to Lord Howe Marine Park to capture the extraordinary marine life that calls this place home. One of the only locations in Australia where you can encounter Galapagos sharks, Lord Howe Island offered the perfect backdrop for this unique story.

Joining us was Amberofthesea, Australia’s deepest female freediver. Early in the expedition, she casually mentioned she could dance underwater. As we geared up to swim with the sharks, someone joked, “Why not go down there and dance with them?” And that’s exactly what she did.

Galapagos sharks are naturally curious and elegant in the water—Amber’s movements only amplified their interest, creating a surreal, weightless interaction.

We filmed on the RED V-RAPTOR S35 (Rhino Edition, courtesy of Wildmotiondocs) housed in nauticamhousings. Deliverables included both horizontal and vertical formats, so capturing in 8K gave us critical flexibility in post. The V-RAPTOR’s high frame rates and R3D files allowed us to stretch fast, fleeting moments and pull crisp RAW stills—perfect for a story like this, where every detail matters.

More than just a visual journey, this project is a call to action. We’re supporting efforts to protect the Lord Howe Rise by advocating for the creation of a marine sanctuary—one that would safeguard Galapagos sharks and countless other species for generations to come.
