From child psychology to shaping the laws that help keep Victorians safe, Dr Georgina Lee’s path into policy wasn’t planned, but it's where she’s found purpose.⁣
⁣
Georgina began her career with a PhD in child psychology. While she enjoyed solving complex problems, she knew research wasn’t where she wanted to stay. Looking for something more practical and applied, a chance job ad led her to Victoria Police.⁣
⁣
Though she no longer uses her psychology training in a clinical sense, she still draws on its core strengths - problem solving, logic, and analytical thinking.⁣
⁣
"The work can be technical, but it’s all about that shared goal – keeping the community safe.”⁣
⁣
“Seeing people from all walks of life with different perspectives, experiences and skillsets come together to work towards that goal, that is what keeps me showing up.”⁣
⁣
Today, Georgina’s works in the Policy and Legislation Division, helping deliver law reform and shape clear, practical guidance for frontline members and VPS staff working behind the scenes.⁣
⁣
She’s been helping Victoria Police prepare for the introduction of tobacco licensing laws, which launched earlier this month, and is currently contributing to Youth Justice reform – proof that policy work is anything but static.⁣
⁣
She also credits much of her growth to two incredible bosses who have taught her the power of perspective, and how to “not sweat the small stuff and keep my focus on the bigger picture.”⁣
⁣
As a working mum, Georgina values the flexibility Victoria Police offers that lets her grow her career and be there for her family, all while contributing to something bigger.⁣
