Wyatt Hendrickson (@wyatt_hendrickson) defeated Olympic Gold Medalist and two-time Hodge Trophy-winner Gable Steveson in the last match of the NCAA Division I Men's Wrestling Championship Tournament in the 285-lbs Heavyweight final on March 22, 2025 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, PA.

Hendrickson is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and required special permission to fulfill his last year of remaining NCAA competition eligibility at Oklahoma State. Due in a quirk in how the NCAA handled eligibility during COVID, Hendrickson had one year remaining to compete. However, the military academies don't permiss students to be there for five years. So he had to seek another opportunity.

While Hendrickson is a U23 freestyle world champion himself, Steveson is often in the debate of greatest college wrestler of all time, and many considered his victory here a foregone conclusion. Indeed, there were 39 journalists who submitted predictions for the tournament to USA Wrestling, and out of 10 weight classes, and with 330 competing wrestlers, only Steveson was a unanimous selection to win his weight class.

Given Steveson's history, and his seeming invincibility, this will be hotly debated as a potential answer to the question: What was the greatest upset in college wrestling history?
