📌 Day Trip to the Mountains - Shenandoah National Park is a great place to spend the day in the mountains 
- drive scenic Skyline Drive
- stop at some overlooks for great views 
- go on a hike 
- camp or stay in a cabin 
- check out the waysides & visitor centers 
- grab a bite to eat at Big Meadows Lodge or Skyland Resort 

📌 Scenic Train Ride with virginiascenicrailway - ride through the mountains of Staunton VA while sipping on a glass of wine with lunch or dinner. Dessert too! Various train rides are offered. Check their website for details 

📌 Virginia Zoo in Norfolk- a great place to enjoy at any age while learning about animals 
9:30am - 4pm daily 

📌Catch a sunset - Kerr Lake is a wonderful place to relax and take in the changing colors of the sky across the water

📌 Check out one of VA’s many underground caverns skylinecaverns shown but Luray, Shenandoah, Endless, Natural Bridge, & Grand Caverns are great too!
 
📌 Hike to a mountain summit - so many to choose from. White Rocks (in southwestern VA) has amazing views.  Combine with the sand cave for a longer hike | 8 mile hike for the White Rocks/Sand Cave loop | 2,283 feet in elevation gain | rated as hard. White Rocks out and back 5.3 miles

📌 Take in 360 degree views from a fire or observation tower: Big Walker (Wytheville, VA) Birch Knob (Clintwood, VA) are 2 great options (both shown)

📌 Go fresh or saltwater fishing - go out on a Chesapeake Bay charter boat for cobia, drum, spanish mackeral, or bluefish. So much fun!! 

📌 Explore some cool rocks formations - Compton Peak’s columnar jointing is a unique rock formation you have to see | 2.3 miles | 705 feet in elevation gain featuring a rocky overlook with a view and this geologic feature 

📌 Visit a new park. If you haven’t been to Great Falls (McClean, VA) - it’s must see with all the rushing water down the Potomac River. Great hiking trails and overlooks
