Imagine not knowing a single ballet step and being asked to perform with American Ballet Theatre. That’s how 22-year-old dance artist taisvinolo, who starred in Amazon Prime Video’s now-canceled etoileonprime, describes her experience learning how to act as she filmed the show alongside seasoned actors and producers.

#DanceSpirit caught up with Vinolo to talk about her crash-course in acting, connection to her character Mishi, and plans for the future.

Image descriptions
(1) Onstage in front of a light blue backdrop, two dancers do a triumphant “fish” pose, the supporting partner lunging to the side and holding the other dancer in a dipped position with one leg tucked and the other extended long. A dancer poses in profile on pointe in parallel, balancing on her front leg as she reached behind with her right arm to hold her right foot, her right leg bent at the knee. She rests her other hand atop her head. She wears tan tights and a light pink leotard, and her curly dark hair is left down and long. (2) Backstage in the wings, in moody purple lighting, a ballerina stands with her back to the camera but turns her head to look into the lens, hands on her hips. She wears a flower crown and a bright blue tutu.
(3) Text reads: “Something that’s important to me is to be a good representation for the Black community as a Black ballerina.”
