Sir David Attenborough is one of the most respected voices in science, nature, and environmental awareness.

In 2008, we awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Letters (Litt.D.) for his work in promoting understanding and care for the natural world. Today, we happily come together with people all over the world to celebrate his life and legacy.🌍

Did you know that for over 70 years, Sir David has done incredible things?
🔹 Created nature documentaries that reached millions worldwide, including Life on Earth (1979), The Blue Planet (2001) and Planet Earth II (2016).
🔹 Used groundbreaking technology, from drone footage to time-lapse and deep-sea submersibles, to capture nature as never seen before, particularly in Our Planet (2019).
🔹 Blended science, storytelling and ethics, encouraging action: “If we take care of nature, nature will take care of us”.
🔹 Raised global awareness of climate change and biodiversity loss, especially in A Life on Our Planet (2020), his personal witness statement for the planet.
🔹 Advocated for endangered species and fragile ecosystems, bringing attention to polar habitats, coral reefs and rainforest biodiversity.🐻‍❄️🦈
🔹 Been honoured by scientists, with species like the Attenborosaurus conybeari and the rare Zaglossus attenboroughi echidna named in his honour.
🔹 Shaped public discussion and environmental policy, speaking at the UN, the COP climate summits and the World Economic Forum.
🔹 Received numerous honorary degrees and awards, including knighthoods, BAFTA Fellowships and the prestigious UN Champion of the Earth.
