We are taking major steps to protect our mountain camp properties and the surrounding ecosystem in Julian, CA. 🌲
With support from a San Diego River Conservancy grant, we’ve launched a forward-thinking vegetation treatment plan across our 672-acre forested land.
This ongoing project includes:
🔥 Wildfire fuel reduction using permitted air curtain burners—GSSD is the first non-government organization in the county to implement this technology
🌱 A native tree nursery restoring species like Coulter and Sugar Pines
💧 A backup generator to ensure safe water access during power outages
These efforts not only reduce wildfire risk but also provide Girl Scouts with real-life lessons in climate resilience and environmental leadership.
