The Miners win! ⛏️

Sussex County closed out July with a 12-3 win over the Trois-Rivières Aigles and salvaged the series. The Miners now return home for a three-game weekend set against the Brockton Rox starting on Friday, August 1.

Mahki Backstrom powered the Miners with a five-RBI night, including his 11th home run of the season. The first baseman went 3-for-5, scoring three runs and walking once. Second baseman Hunter D’Amato added a 4-for-5 performance, including a double and a triple. He drove in two and plated another.

Rob Hensey (W, 6-3) earned the win with a quality start. He tossed six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking four and striking out five batters. Relievers Tyler Luneke, Ronnie Voacolo, and Matt Stil combined for three scoreless innings to seal the win.

Sussex County returned to first place in the Frontier League’s Atlantic Conference East Division with a 39-30 record, holding a slim 0.5-game lead over the New York Boulders, who were rained out tonight against the Tri-City ValleyCats.
