Coming face to face with a mountain gorilla in the heart of Rwanda is nothing short of humbling. Their quiet strength, deep eyes, and human-like gestures remind you how closely connected we really are. Watching them interact in their natural habitat (peaceful, powerful, and profoundly present) was a moment I’ll never forget. 🦍🌿

📍Volcanoes National Park, located in the Virunga Mountains, is home to over a third of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
🗻 The park spans 160 sq km and includes five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga range.
🧬 Mountain gorillas share 98.4% of their DNA with humans, live in tight family groups, and can weigh up to 400 lbs!
💚 Conservation efforts here have helped increase their population (proof that protecting nature truly works)
