🌟 On This Day 45 years ago, the charming and mischievous Patrick Depailler lost his life while testing for Alfa Romeo at Hockenheim ten days ahead of the German Grand Prix.

The suspension on his 179 failed at the fast Ostkurve - then a top gear right hander - and he speared into unprotected guardrails; the Grand Prix's tyre wall and layers of catch fencing that might have saved him had not yet been installed.
