cbsnews : Several family members of the late Virginia Giuffre — one of the most prominent people to accuse Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell of abuse — said the U.S. government should “never consider giving Ghislaine Maxwell any leniency,” calling her a “monster who deserves to rot in prison for the rest of her life.”

“She must remain in prison – anything less would go down in history as being one of the highest travesties of justice,” read the statement, which was penned by two of Giuffre’s siblings and their spouses. Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year. 

Maxwell’s attorneys have not responded to CBS News’ request for comment.

The statement comes after President Trump offered more context to his falling out with Epstein, when he said the convicted sex offender “stole” Giuffre from his Mar-a-Lago spa.  The family’s comments also came in response to officials meeting with Maxwell, who appears to be willing to provide information to a congressional committee next month during a deposition but only if she is granted immunity or is pardoned, according to a letter from her attorney obtained by CBS News. Todd Blanche, the second highest-ranking Justice Department official, met with Maxwell in Tallahassee on July 24 and 25 to discuss Epstein.

Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence, was convicted in 2021 for her role in helping Epstein recruit, groom and abuse underage girls.
