When hearing about what I do with Game Changers | Leadership and Peer Mentoring Initiative—some would say:  You’re doing God’s work— I’d smirk, tell them thanks, then go about my way.

Ten years ago, I decided to leave corporate America and transition into the nonprofit sector.  To be completely honest, I had NO idea what that would mean in its totality.  I was merely driven by a passion to help youth develop into young men and women of purpose, and give them a few life-tools that I wish I would’ve received as a high school student. 
.

And if I am to be completely transparent, watching my friends excel in their careers, travel, purchase their homes—new cars, become parents and live “full lives” was something that I would struggle with from time to time.  Don’t get me wrong—I knew that the impact of helping students was worth it, but would the journey of moving back in with the parents to launch Game Changers, driving my faithful jeep for the past 25 years, forging the corporate gig, etc. — leave me financially chained to insurmountable debt for the remainder of my life.

Years after I launched Game Changers, a friend in education told me about student loans being forgiven if you worked in the space of public service.  At the time, I was struggling to repay my student loans, and was in a deferment program just to keep my head above water.  I signed up, and would “just manage” for these past 10 years.  Then last week I received a life changing letter from MOHELA indicating that due to my years of public service, my student loans had been FORGIVEN!!! I went from shock, to calling and speaking to a representative, to shock again, to it just now sinking in!!!

So what is my takeaway??? #1 When you put good out in the world, it will come back and find you when you least expect it!! #2 Dreams cost, but regret cost more!  If you’re passionate about something, give it your all!! #3 Although I’m uncertain if what I’m doing is “God’s work,” one thing I’m certain of— God is working! 
.

Special shout/out to President barackobama for passing legislation to make this happen during his tenure!
