In an after-school program run in northern Indigenous communities, every young person who participates receives a "Messy Book" kit.
 
It’s a place for them to make and explore their own art and mixed media. But it's about more than just art, says Susan Aglukark a JUNO Award-winning Inuk singer-songwriter and the founder of the Arctic Rose Foundation, a charitable nonprofit that runs the Messy Book Program.
 
The Messy Book is a symbol for something the youth can control, in communities where managing mental health can be a challenge.

Dans le cadre d’un programme parascolaire offert dans les communautés autochtones du Nord, chaque jeune qui participe reçoit une trousse « Messy Book ». 

Le programme leur permet de créer et d’explorer leurs propres œuvres d’art et les techniques mixtes. Mais il ne se limite pas qu’à l’art, explique Susan Aglukark, fondatrice du programme et auteure-compositrice-interprète. 

Le Messy Book symbolise quelque chose que les jeunes peuvent contrôler dans des collectivités où la gestion de la santé mentale peut s’avérer difficile.
