At 14, she was forced into child marriage in Sierra Leone. Abused by her husband and co-wives, she was returned to her abusers when she tried to escape. At 15—after years of trauma and without proper mental health evaluation—she was convicted of murder and sentenced to indefinite detention.

Today, two WJW Fellows are changing her story. Francess Gegbai of advocaid and Awa Gai of the Institute for Human Rights and Development in Africa are bringing her case before the ECOWAS Court, challenging Sierra Leone's failure to prevent child marriage and protect survivors. Their work is demanding accountability and reshaping regional justice standards.
