From the West with Love

As a girl from Carson, California, I always dreamed of attending an HBCU. Four years ago, I decided to leave the beautiful state of California and move 1,472 miles away to a state I had never been to. The last four years away from home haven’t been easy; I’ve missed family gatherings, battled homesickness, and even received the call that my grandmother passed away at the beginning of my senior year. Despite all of this, I pushed through, and I wouldn’t change my decision for anything. In these last four years at Prairie View A&M University, I have learned resilience, independence, and the true meaning of community. I’ve grown in ways I never imagined, both academically and personally. 

To the Cali iz Active Family,

Thank you for being the home away from home. Your support has made my time at PV unforgettable. I’m grateful for the friendships and memories we’ve created within this organization. Cali Iz Active has truly made a difference in my college experience. 

To Mr. And Mrs. Make It Happen,

Thank you for pushing me to achieve whatever I set my mind to and for 22 years of unwavering love and support. My parents always told me that if I ever wanted to come home to finish school I could, but to never let what’s happening at home dictate my decisions because my only job was to be a student. I’m so grateful God blessed me with parents who would honestly do anything for their children. Leaving home for college was a big step, but knowing I had their support made all the difference. I always knew they were just a phone call away, ready to offer advice, a listening ear, or even a plane ticket home for the weekend so I could reset. Their belief in me has been my greatest motivation. -one week until graduation 👩🏽‍🎓
