In a wide-ranging and candid "Life in Pictures" interview with people, John Cena reflected on his legendary career and detailed the real reasons for his current WWE farewell tour. He explained that at 48 years old, he feels he's a "step slower" and wants to be "graceful exiting the business," stating, "I would hate to take a dream away from a kid like me." He revealed that the farewell tour was his own idea to provide a sense of "closure" for the fans who have been like a "family member" to him for over two decades.

Cena also opened up about his tumultuous journey in Hollywood. He admitted that during his first movie roles like The Marine, he wasn't present and was only focused on promoting WWE, which led to poor performances. "I got run out of the movie business in like, 2009 for for doing bad movies where I wasn't present," he said. He credited the 2015 comedy Trainwreck with revitalizing his acting career, saying Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer created a "safe environment" for him to be creative.
