In this final week of our Joffrey West Summer Intensive, dancers stepped into the studio with faculty Marguerite Derricks margueritederricks —where every phrase in jazz class became a study in nuance, musicality, and presence. Her choreography asked dancers to move with precision and purpose, but also to let go, to tap into something intuitive and lived. It was a space where performance met process, and style met soul.

As the first and only choreographer to win three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography, Marguerite’s influence spans television, film, theater, and beyond. Her iconic work includes The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, GLOW, Westworld, the Austin Powers franchise, 13 Going on 30, Zumanity, and many more. Her creative force brought layers to the room, pushing dancers to channel emotion through clarity, rhythm, and breath.

As we prepare for Woven, our culminating performance tomorrow, her class marks a powerful moment of integration of everything these dancers have trained for. What began as technique has evolved into tone, texture, and story. And now, that story prepares to unfold onstage.
