Creeper, Bloodstock Festival 2025

REVIEW: A few years back, a Creeper appearance at Bloodstock would have raised more than a few eyebrows. But now, with the amount of crimson that is glistening off their chins as they take to the Ronnie James Dio Stage, they couldn't be more at home. In completely embracing their 'Sanguivore' imagery and attitude, to the extent that they are delving even deeper into it with their upcoming sequel album, they have found yet another community to ensnare, and they are doing so with considerable gusto.
It certainly helps when the songs you have under your spell continue to be this excellent. "Blood Magick (It's A Ritual)' shimmers with late 80s hedonism whilst the grisly storytelling of 'The Ballad Of Spook & Mercy' is devoured hungrily by the masses who have been drawn to the spectacle. And possessing such output has seemingly spiked the confidence that pulses through the band's veins, too. Ian Miles races around the stage like Eddie Van Halen at his most bodacious, throwing his axe higher and higher with every solo, whilst William Von Ghould has managed to hit a whole new level of charisma, channelling as much Freddie Mercury as he does David from The Lost Boys. And all of this swagger has rubbed off into their older output too, with the now classic 'Down Below' feeling even more fantastical and ferocious than ever before. 
With one final pump of pyro alongside a thrilling 'Cry To Heaven', another razor-sharp victory is secured for the Creeper cult. It's bombastic, bold and blood-drenched in all of the most wondrous ways, and when you are performing at a level as cool, calloused and commanding as this, literally nothing can stand in your way.
