We only do this THREE times a year. 😳 That’s right, on three of the 38 NASCAR Cup Series events each season feature a ‘backwards pit stop’ where the direction of pit road is mirrored from a typical race weekend. Watkins Glen, Mexico City, and the Chicago Street Course present a unique challenge to our pit crews.  With the right circumstances, our pit crews have pulled off four tire pit stops in just over 8 seconds on a normal pit stop. With backwards pit stops, pit stops will typically take over 10 seconds to complete.  This is due to factors such as: • 💪🏻PRACTICE💪🏻 Less repetitions/practice with backwards stops • 😬AWKWARDNESS😬 Awkwardness of the car coming in from the left vs. typically from the right • ☝🏻POSITIONING☝🏻 On a forward pit stop, the jackman is in front of the tire carrier. They’re swapped on a backwards pit stop • 🏃🏻‍♂️MORE MOTIONS🏃🏻‍♂️On a backwards stop, the carrier and the jackman are coming all the way around the car and typically have their back to it, then do a 180 degree turn to position themselves for the stop • 🔁POSITION SWAP🔁 Some teams may swap their front and rear tire changers - the 17 team in this video did not • 🛞TIRE ROLL🛞 On a forward stop, only the front tire changer rolls a tire back to the pit wall. On a backwards stop, now the rear changer is rolling the tire • ⛽️FUEL STRATEGY⛽️ For the Jackman, it’s quicker on a backwards stop to run around the rear of the car. BUT if the team elects to take two cans of fuel instead of one, running around the backside would be slower It is a true work of choreography to make sure a five man team can service the car with new tires and fresh fuel no matter what direction cars come down pit road.  #NASCAR #PitStop #PitCrew #PitRoad
