“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.” -2 Corinthians 5:6-9

It’s such a blessing to be part of the Body and experience so much love; something that can be physically and immediately experienced. Even when halfway across the country, I still feel the blessings of that community. If that much is true of earthly, physical relationships, how much more would a relationship with the LORD be filled with joy!

In this, we must walk by faith and not by sight. Faith means placing our trust in God Himself, not in our circumstances, feelings, or our own understanding. Walking by sight alone is like drinking salt water; it cannot satisfy and will only leave us thirstier. True life is only found in Jesus, and walking by faith requires an active, two-way relationship with Him. We get to know His character through His Word, we recognize His voice as the Spirit brings His truth to mind, and we obey what He says because He is Lord.

Faith is not passive; it is a daily choice to reject the lies of the world, our flesh, and the enemy, and instead believe what God has said is true. Confidence in this truth doesn’t come from our own strength, but from the Spirit who reminds us of what’s eternal. Walking by faith means trusting Him in the ordinary and the unseen, in both the peaks of joy and the valleys of trial. Trusting that His plan is greater, my hope is in Him, and I need not worry about tomorrow. This isn’t blind optimism, but certain hope in the presence of God we will one day fully see. Until then, whether we are at home or away, in plenty or in want, our aim remains the same: to live in such a way that brings Him glory in every step of the journey.
