According to @cnn, President #DonaldTrump instructed the White House staff to move the portrait of former President #BarackObama from the Grand Staircase to a restricted hallway, which is out of view for the thousands of visitors who tour the White House daily. One source mentioned that the portraits of both Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush are now displayed in the staircase area. Trump also moved the portraits of #BillClinton and George H.W. Bush during his first term and replaced them with portraits of former Republican Presidents #TheodoreRoosevelt and #WilliamMcKinley.

The restricted hallway is accessible only to members of the first family, U.S. Secret Service agents, and a limited number of White House and executive residence staff. CNN reported that this is not the first time that portraits have been relocated; another portrait of Obama was replaced by a Trump portrait depicting the aftermath of the Butler, Pennsylvania shooting in April.

It is standard White House protocol for the portraits of the most recent presidents to be given the most prominent placement, typically displayed in the entrance of the executive mansion.
