This is what it looks like to stand up for the deep sea.

Last month, our team joined soalliance at the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Jamaica, the UN body responsible for managing the seabed in international waters. Together, we worked to ensure youth voices were heard in the global debate over deep-sea mining.

When it comes to deep-sea mining, scientists agree there isn’t enough research to understand the risks — yet political will to pause and gather that science remains limited. That’s why we sent our resident marine biologist, Jamie Goncalves, to witness how political decisions are shaping the future of the ocean, even in the face of scientific uncertainty.

Read about his experience at the ISA, what he learned, and where the fight against deep-sea mining stands now, in Ripple Effect with katiecouricmedia at the link in our bio.
