So, I’m non-binary. Specifically, I’m gender queer, gender fluid, whatever you want to call whatever is going on over here. I’ve spent a lot of my time and energy trying to explain myself in a way that is palatable and easily digestible to the people around me. I spend a lot of time trying to become the person people think I should be, and more time trying to figure out who I even want to be beyond that. But when I take away all of the perception and all of the noise, I’m just me. I’m confusing, but that’s okay. There are a lot of beautiful things in nature that I don’t understand.

I want you to find whatever meaning is most applicable and helpful to you in this art, so go ahead and feel how you feel about it, because that’s such an important part of the experience of art, but if you’re interested in learning my intentions behind the decisions made, feel free to keep reading!
These two characters depicted are both me. One is the hyper-fem version of myself, and the other is my version of masculine. They are facing each other, but we see it as head on, as I wanted the audience to see what each character is seeing from their own perspective. Everything depicted in red represents the voice of expectations and norms of being trans masculine. It also represents the inner thoughts of what is going through the more masculine character. This artwork depicts how I feel when I try to refer to myself and grant myself the privilege of any kind of masculinity. Especially when I’m aware of how I’m perceived by others (fem). I believe very firmly that trans folks do not owe anyone androgyny, masculinity, nor femininity. It’s all just a social construct anyway formed by social rules that have no real basis or grounds other than “because it’s always been this way” and “because we say so”. In reality, I don’t experience all that much dysphoria when it comes to my body. I experience lots of gender euphoria when I bind or wear certain clothes, of course. It’s where perception of others comes in that can sometimes get to me. I hope this art can help someone who might need it right now!! I am very new to art and I’m still practicing and trying to get better! #dysphoria #transgender
