In this issue, we spotlight Cate Blanchett, who is no stranger to playing complicated and misunderstood women, in Apple TV+’s “Disclaimer,” where she took on what she calls “the antithesis” of the usual lead role. “I, as an actor and as a character, was put inside a very small box that was slowly having the air squeezed out of it until I finally got to speak,” she says.⁠

Blanchett, who filmed her climactic 40-page monologue in one take, says the role confronted her own immediate judgments of characters’ motivations. She’s “absolutely” open to more television and recently made a secret cameo in the final scene of Netflix’s “Squid Game”: “I am wildly open to anything." ⁠
