In prison since 1996 for the 1989 murder of his parents, #ErikMenendez today was denied his attempt at parole after a very long and sometimes jarring virtual hearing. He will not be eligible to try for early release again for until 2028.

“While we respect the decision, today’s outcome was of course disappointing and not what we hoped for,” the Menendez family said in a statement after the parole board decision was announced. 

The family concluded: “Tomorrow, we turn our attention to Lyle’s hearing...”
