This Juneteenth, take time to learn, reflect, and honor. Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This holiday is a moment to remember the delayed promise of freedom and to reflect on the ongoing fight for racial justice. From W.E.B. Du Bois’s visionary data portraits and the layered symbolism in Kara Walker’s latest immersive work to a children's story of hope—each book invites deeper reflection on the past and highlights the resilience of Black life in America. 📚 Explore books from our museum store that illuminate the beauty, resilience, innovation, and truth of Black life. #Juneteenth #BlackHistory #Education
