The Screams Begin Thursday, September 4

Universal City, CA – August 7, 2025 – Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood unleashes even more terror this year with the addition of three fan-favorite experiences: the iconic horror masterpiece Poltergeist, the returning nightmare of Terror Tram: Enter the Blumhouse, and the explosive water-based stunt spectacular The Purge: Dangerous Waters. To top it off, four sinister scare zones will keep the screams coming all night long. The nation’s premier Halloween event kicks off Thursday, September 4, and runs on select nights through Sunday, November 2.

From Amazon MGM Studios, the supernatural cult classic Poltergeist invites guests to step “into the light” in an all-new haunted house, exclusive to Universal Studios Hollywood. Widely regarded as one of the scariest films ever made when it first terrified audiences in 1982, Poltergeist will plunge fans into nightmarish scenes from the film, complete with chilling characters and the unforgettable setting of the Freeling family home.

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is an annual Halloween-themed event held at Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Japan, and Singapore. The Orlando event remains the longest-running and most successful, first debuting in 1991 as Universal Studios Fright Nights, a three-night celebration at Universal Studios Florida. The following year, it was rebranded as Halloween Horror Nights and promoted as the “second annual event.” Since then, the event has grown into a massive scare-filled festival featuring haunted houses, scare zones, and live shows, running on select nights from late August or early September through early November. Its success has since inspired spinoffs at other Universal parks around the world.

In Orlando, Halloween Horror Nights was held exclusively at Universal Studios Florida from 1991 to 2001 before shifting to Universal’s Islands of Adventure for 2002 and 2003. A dual-park format was tested in 2004, after which the event returned solely to Islands of Adventure in 2005. In 2006, it made its way back to Universal Studios Florida, where it has been staged annually—except in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced its first-ever cancellation. The following year, the event triumphantly returned to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2021.
