It's Senior Spotlight time! During spring semester, we highlight some of our incredibly accomplished seniors.

Will (they/them) is a theatre major from Brooklyn, New York. Their thesis is about the history of Frankenstein in the theatre and how these adaptations have changed both the way we think about the story and the way we think about adapting work. In order to investigate this topic, Will is directing a Frankenstein-inspired production of the play “Blue Heart” by Caryl Churchill. They chose Churchill’s play because they had previously directed a scene of hers in a theatre class at Reed and fallen in love with her style. 

Will’s thesis adviser is Associate Professor of Theatre Kate Duffly, and her classes in performance and performance studies have been instrumental in the development of Will’s project. They served as her assistant director this fall on “Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play,” a science fiction musical. 

Will is also the manager of Reed’s comic book library, which has been operated entirely by students for over 40 years and is the largest collection in the Pacific Northwest. With a few friends, they curate and organize the existing collection as well as update it with new works—including some made by students!

Throughout their four years here, Will has had a thrilling and enriching experience that has allowed them to take advantage of Reed’s resources and come into their own as a performance artist. They will take with them the skills they have gained and the connections they have made from their time at Reed.
