Ever wonder how awesome Reed seniors are? Time for a senior spotlight!

Bahar (she/her) is a philosophy major from Dallas, Texas. Her thesis delves into four areas of machine intelligence to help identify the impact of artificial intelligence on our understanding of human cognition and intelligence. She aims to identify the successes and downfalls of previous and current artificial intelligence systems while also looking at the ethical implications of achieving "true" artificial intelligence.

Bahar's thesis advisor is Mark Bedau, who researches the nature of artificial life as well as the ethical and social implications of recreating life. Bahar appreciates Mark for supporting her ideas and always being willing to share his expertise on concepts like the Turing Test.

Outside of her academic endeavours, Bahar helms The Grail, Reed's creative and literary arts magazine, where she works as a copy editor, layout editor, and contributor. She also hosts a radio show that explores the world of techno and tech-house in international settings, works as an intern in the office of admission, and runs the Philosophy Circle. On a typical Friday night, you can find Bahar making jam for Bread Club or playing pool in the Pool Hall.

Bahar's favorite thing about Reed is the vibrant and passionate campus culture. From being able to host a radio show to knowing that she will always see a familiar face studying in the library or lying out on the great lawn—the sense of community at Reed is what makes the whole experience so worthwhile.
