Running low on dinner inspiration? 🍽️ No worries – we’ve got something delicious for you! This weekend we’re celebrating Swedish Meatball Day – a tribute to one of Sweden’s most beloved bites! 🇸🇪

Make them big or make them small! There’s just one golden rule: they have to be made with love! 😋♥️

Zofia Selimi is a food creator with Balkan roots. She cooks food from all over the world – from her grandmother’s Roma recipes to classic Swedish dishes. This is Zofia’s recipe for Swedish meatballs.

Here’s the recipe for this Swedish classic:
4 servings
For the meatballs you will need:
🥩 500g minced beef or mixed mince
🍞 25g breadcrumbs
🥛 100ml milk
🥚 1 egg
🧅 1 yellow onion
🧂 1 pinch of salt
⚫ 2g freshly ground black pepper
🧈 Oil & butter for frying

Instructions:
1. Peel and finely chop the onion. Fry it in oil and butter without browning – the onion should just soften.
2. Mix milk, breadcrumbs, egg, salt and pepper in a bowl. Let the mixture swell for 5 minutes.
3. Add the minced meat and the fried onion to the breadcrumb mixture. Stir everything into a smooth mixture.
4. Moisten your hands with cold water and shape the mixture into meatballs of desired size.
5. Heat a frying pan with oil and butter. Fry the meatballs over medium heat, preferably a few at a time. Shake the pan occasionally.
6. Lower the heat once the meatballs are browned. Keep turning the meatballs so they cook evenly.

For the brown sauce you will need:
🧈 25g butter
🤍 1 tbsp plain flour
🥩 400 ml veal stock (made by dissolving a stock cube in boiling water)
⚫ 1g black pepper
🥢 ½ tsp dark soy sauce
🔴 1 tsp lingonberry jam

Instructions:
1. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the flour while stirring. Let the roux turn light brown.
2. Add the stock and soy sauce. Bring to a boil while stirring and let it simmer for about 2 minutes.
3. Season with lingonberry jam, salt, and pepper.

Plate and serve with 🥔 mashed potatoes, lingonberries (or lingonberry jam) and pickled cucumber. Enjoy! 😍
