Did you know that the “Christian Girl Autumn” meme was actually invented by a trans woman?

Fashion blogger Caitlin Covington rose to fame in 2019 as the face of ‘Christian Girl Autumn’, an internet trend which originated as the successor to “Hot Girl Summer”.

The aesthetic of a “Christian Girl Autumn” is centred around Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Chelsea boots and oversized knitwear.

In August 2019, a photo of Caitlin and her friend went viral after it was posted by a trans content creator Natasha on X.

The post was captioned: “Hot Girl Summer is coming to an end, get ready for Christian Girl Autumn”

In response to the viral photo, Covington wrote on X: “If all of Twitter is gonna make fun of my fall photos, at least pick some good ones! For the record, I do like pumpkin spice lattes”.

While Covington admits that she might be ‘basic’ when it comes to her “Christian Girl Autumn” aesthetic, the influencer has always been a vocal ally to the LGBTQ+ community.

In September 2020, Natasha, who invented the meme, set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her transition.

She wrote: “Finding my identity has been a really strange and difficult journey but I will never stop trying to be who I am!”
