"In Season 4, Deborah takes the stage as Late Night’s newest host in a carefully choreographed oner. As she steps in front of the cameras, our shot ends with the same composition that opened the pilot — a full circle moment. 

To underscore how far Deborah has come, showrunners Jen (jenstatsky), Paul (paulwdowns), and Lucia (luciaaniellosetfits) reversed the pilot’s opening oner.  There, the camera followed Deborah off stage, her best years seemingly behind her. Now, we're with Deborah as she finds her mark under the studio lights and steps into the future she’s always dreamt of.

Successfully executing a oner always feels like a small miracle, but it’s actually the result of every member of the cast and crew collaborating at the highest level. Everyone has to be in lockstep with each other to pull it off.

Like the pilot oner, this shot was elegantly operated on Steadicam by Joel Marsh (iamjoelmarsh). 1st AC Jamiel VanOver (jamielvanover) pulled perfect focus. Gaffer Daniel McNutt (danielmcnutt) and Key Grip Randy Garcia (holdfastgripla) designed the lighting. Production Designer Rob Tokarz (robtokarz) and Set Decorator Jennifer Lukehart (jenlukehart) created the set with this shot in mind. Costume Designer Kathleen Felix-Hager (kfhager) dressed Deborah in sequins to echo the pilot and draw the audience’s eye. And of course, the incomparable Jean Smart (realjeansmart) gave a performance that brought it all home."
