Sometimes a little rain makes the experience better! Did you know there are only two permanent waterfalls in Milford Sound? but when it rains it looks like this! People travel here and wait days for the rain to come before they get on a boat to see the sound. Here are some details for planning your trip (save this for later!) • Milford sound is a 4 hour drive from Queenstown in Nee Zealand’s South Island. You can drive down and stay nearby overnight but we drove up and down in one day. The drive, when it’s raining, is epic. There are waterfalls shooting down the cliffs for the last hour of driving before the sound. It’s just incredible!  • Several of companies run boat tours of the Sound, we did ours cruise with @southerndiscoveries and it was great. There’s a front, back and top deck for viewing, free hot drinks and a paid bar for alcoholic drinks and snacks. They have an on board buffet but we brought our own lunches and booked a table for the group. The buffet is expensive, so check out prices before you opt for it. If you can get an upper deck ticket do that! • If it’s raining, pack a change of clothes for after the boat. That way you’re not driving home in wet clothes!  •They sell ponchos at the dock, or pack a little Jack in a Pack like I had, anything with a hood to keep you dry  • The cruise lasts about 90 minutes, and they give you a full guided tour as you travel through the sound. There was lots of space to move around on our cruise (we couldn’t really use the top deck much due to the rain, so I’d imagine in dry weather you’d have more space). And there’s tons of time to take photos and videos.
