Truly women’s representation in cinema is the reason I went to film school. I wanted to create stories where REAL women (flawed, complex, compelling, diverse) dominated the screen and not the 2-D archetypes I grew up with. Granted, I was lucky to have the cinema I did considering my age BUT here we discuss the HERSTORY of women in Cinema. The awful impact of The Hays Code in 1934, the 30 year fight, the effort to reclaim the narrative and the icons charging the path now for us all.
