I can hear your voice now...”Will you just go to bed?!” you’d ask 7 year old me wanting to stay up with you and gram for fear of missing anything with you both. From the horsey rides on your lap when I was little, to the strolling up and down the beaches in Corpus Christi looking for sandollars, to you teaching me to play cards and helping me hide gram’s Waldorf salad on my plate because I was impossibly picky and still to this day hate Mayo.

To the scent of black licorice and spearmint leaves and the way you used to always hold on to the handle above the door when I would drive (can’t blame you) to the phone calls where we would laugh until we almost peed our pants with our signature intro line “hellloooooooo?” in full accent. To the pep talks through my darkest days and my phone calls on your less than bright ones after beating cancer, then a valve replacement, then another valve and then that darn cane you despised so much that much to your amused behest you let me parade full vaudeville style around the living room while we danced to “I just haven’t met you yet” after laughing about another one of my gone before-it launched relationships.

The memories flood, as do all the emotions of your passing. Gramps, pops, big Moe, the Irishman, etc. there will not be a day for the rest of my earthly existence I don’t think if you and feel the gratitude of getting your souls existence with mine for 27 years. There isn’t a word to describe the love I have for you.

I could go on, and you’re right I should “just go to bed” like you’ve told me a million times but I promise you this, I’ll LIVE just as honest, authentic, joyous, and understanding as you did, I will love the way you did for your family, your friends and especially how head over heels you were for gram for 62 years, and I WONT SCREW IT UP! Because you knew how precious this time here on this plane is. Well I got news for you Pops, you didn’t screw it up at all, not even a little bit. 🦋💛💛💛
