An apparent surge of student loan forgiveness approval letters sent during the last several weeks is offering hope to borrowers that the federal student #loan system isn’t completely broken. But significant problems are still impacting millions of borrowers, and even more serious threats loom on the horizon.

The so-called “golden letters” provide final approval for a discharge under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. PSLF offers borrowers a path to eventual #studentloan forgiveness after they make the equivalent of 10 years of qualifying payments while devoting their full-time careers to government or nonprofit work.
