#TSRPolitics: Federal Reserve Governor #LisaCook, the first Black woman to serve on the board, is suing to keep her job after President #DonaldTrump announced earlier this week that he was removing her from the board, which helps set interest rates.

In a lawsuit filed Thursday morning, Cook asked a judge to rule that Trump’s decision is illegal and confirm that she is still an active member of the Federal Reserve. As reported by CNN, the case could turn into a major legal fight that may impact both the Fed’s independence and the limits of presidential power.

The White House argues that Trump’s move was legal. Spokesman Kush Desai said Cook was removed because she was “credibly accused of lying in financial documents” and that removing her would strengthen the Fed’s accountability and credibility. However, she has not been charged with anything.
