The Holocaust is such an important part of history and one that we need to continuously talk about so it’s not forgotten. It happened. We cannot let people convince others that it didn’t.

Tonight begins Yom HaShoah - Holocaust Remembrance Day - honoring the six million Jews (and others) murdered by the Nazis during World War 2. Many Jews either perished or survived by the blink of an eye decision.

As I age it’s learning of these moments of chance that chill me the most. These split second decisions that either ended a family forever or created a legacy for generations to come. Sliding Doors.

I was afraid to learn about the Holocaust when I was younger and now am somewhat obsessed with learning about it as I age.

I believe it’s a true gift to speak to survivors and hear about their journey.

I’m grateful for museums like hmtcli for hosting educational events. I’m grateful for the wonderful smile samisteigmannspeaks always wears.
I’m grateful for organizations like ifyouheardwhatiheard to keep stories alive.
I’m grateful for the work jonnydaniels does.
I’m grateful to hear leaders like legislator_arnie_drucker and rabbijlev speak and shout for our protection.

I love watching the incredible Holocaust speaker judnewborn come alive when telling stories and sharing new perspectives of our resistance for everyone to learn.

Last week I went to an event at the armormuseum commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camps Dachau and Buchenwald.

It was incredible to hear survivors talk about it standing next to uniformed GIs handing out hersheys chocolate bars to mirror the liberation experience in 1945.

80 years is both a long time ago and yesterday. It’s October 7th. The same messages are in our faces today. As a Jew in America in 2025 - it’s scary as hell.

I often think when did my grandparents decide to escape Germany? What was the last straw noting it was time to pack up and flee.

Sadly, never again is now, and we need all the allies we can get. I guarantee that if you have a Jewish friend they’ve wondered if you’d hide them or turn them in. This is our reality and we need all the help we can get.
