Bring Me The Horizon, Reading Festival 2025

REVIEW: It’s times like this, when twenty tornados of pyro are shooting out all around them, where it really sinks in just how far Bring Me The Horizon have come. 
Not just at Reading Festival, but as a whole unit. 
Those scrappy deathcore kids who were never far away from a bit of chaos, now more than just a phenomenon. They are a permanent fixture in any conversation about modern metal, a trailblazer and a tastemaker, a forward-thinking expression of artistic boundlessness who are unafraid to kick the hornet’s nest. 
And with their second headline appearance at this illustrious festival, they are well and truly cementing that status in gloriously hedonistic style.
From the guttural bounce of ‘Happy Song’ to the crisp mayhem of ‘AmEN!’, every single aspect of this display is pristine. The band are as well-oiled as it gets, with Lee Malia’s riffs feeling exceptionally grandiose, whilst Oli Sykes’ voice has never sounded better, leaping between crystalline melodies and belligerent grunts with poise and power. Mixed in with the incredible world-building that the ‘NeX GEn’ era has allowed them to dive into, from spreading computer viruses to colossal monsters being let loose, it is an immersive, carefully calibrated and stunningly engaging experience, the sort that feels transcendental, especially when executed so fantastically in the middle of a field. 
And the belters just keep coming. There’s a gnarly ‘Antivist’ and a spine-tingling ‘Shadow Moses’, a punishing ‘Teardrops’ and an emotional ‘LoST’, and not forgetting a savagely cheeky run-through of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ for good measure. The unrelenting amount of ammo that the band have in their arsenal is astonishing, and that’s before ‘Can You Feel My Heart’ and ‘Drown’ push us even closer to Valhalla.
It’s yet another victory in a long line of victories for a band that continues to surprise, delight and surpass itself. If this is a wave goodbye to the current era, then whatever comes next has the potential to be even more generational. Because this is mighty close.
The UK’s finest? By a country mile.
