My motivation behind starting No Fixed Addresses: Part 2 🌎

This is something I’ve been hesitant to share, because it’s deeply personal. For the past five years, I’ve worked in international development—in nonprofits, government, and overseas in education. It was work that aligned with my values, work I believed in, and work that will always be part of me.

But with the Trump administration, so much of that came to an abrupt end. Entire programs—programs that provided HIV medication, healthcare, education, and more were shut down overnight. Funding dried up, nonprofits closed, and the people most affected were those who depended on those resources. I lost my job, yes, but far more importantly, millions lost access to tools that kept them alive and thriving.

One sector I always noticed was overlooked: sustainable, locally led tourism. In my career, I met incredible people leading international programs to tackle urgent global challenges—and just as importantly, locals who were at the heart of those efforts. But tourism? It was often left out of the conversation.

Of course, food, water, and safety come first. But tourism is not insignificant. In fact, when so many countries are in “development” because of the historic exploitation of their resources, it makes sense that outside investors dominate the industry while locals are left behind. That’s where I want to focus—on shifting tourism back into local hands, even in a small way.
