Come with me on my bunion surgery journey 👣

Sharing my experience because I wish someone shared theirs with me 20 years ago! Then I wouldn’t have waited so long to finally do this 😔

Here are some things I learned through this process:

1. Bunions are genetic! Thanks mom & grandma.. Most people think they’re a result of wearing heels or tight shoes - which def plays a role - but weak ligaments are what cause the big toe metatarsal to drift outwards. Hypermobile people (hi, it me 🙋🏻‍♀️) are more likely to get them.

2. There are apparently only 3 doctors in the world that offer this non-bone shaving / breaking surgery (with no fusing or metal bits in my feet either), mine being one of them. That’s crazy.. this method needs to be more accessible.

3. Post-surgery nerve damage is weird. I’m 6 weeks in now and there are still parts of my feet I can’t feel. But it’s coming back slowly! Grow nerves grow.

4. The hardest part of this recovery is not that I can’t physically walk, it’s that I CAN but *shouldn’t* 🫠 at least not until the ligament grows strong enough.. in 5 months. No “speedy recovery” wishes please 🥲

Hope this helps someone out there!

Let me know if this is something you’re also considering & any questions I can answer! ❤️
