East West Players – the nation’s oldest and longest-running Asian American theatre company – celebrates the diversity and vibrancy of Asian-American experiences. Through one-on-one mentorship and productions faithful to Asian heritage, the theatre brings stories from across the Asian diaspora to the stage, redefining what it means to belong in American theatre.

Located in LA’s Little Tokyo, East West Players has been a home for Asian artists and creators beginning in 1965. Since its founding, the theatre has expanded into a creative hub where Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) creators previously outcast from the American spotlight can examine their own experience and learn to bring it to the professional stage. 

East West Players’ dedication to nurturing Asian-American storytelling is especially relevant today. In a period when diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of American dialogue, the theatre’s commitment to helping artists express authentically Asian American stories – in their own words, in their own accents, and on their own terms – challenges misconceptions and prejudices against the AAPI community.
