As we continue to celebrate #UNC25, hear from #UNCgrad Peyton Jones about a few of her favorite moments at #UNC. 

🎓 Peyton is from Wilson, N.C. This May, she received her bachelor’s in communications with a concentration in media production, double minoring in creative writing and writing for the screen and stage. 

🐏 A highlight of her Carolina experience was working on student productions. “I started out as a production assistant on a web series my freshman year, and now as a senior I’ve written and directed my own short films. It’s been amazing meeting and working with so many talented students and growing as a creative.”

💬 Peyton’s advice to Tar Heels is to put yourself out there. “Want to go to a campus event, but won’t know anyone there? Go anyway. Want to try something that you don’t have much experience in? Try it anyway. Carolina has such a rich community and so many resources meant to help you at your disposal, so immerse yourself in it and try new things!”

🩵 After graduating, Peyton will miss student organizations. “Through groups like Lightwood Studios and Carolina Film Association, I’ve found community, worked on amazing projects and made beautiful memories. I’ve met so many talented people through these orgs.”

👣 When asked how she imagines her Heelprint at Carolina, she said, “I like to think I’ve left my Heelprint at Carolina through creativity and storytelling. My journey in film and media here has been about more than just making projects; it’s been about challenging norms, connecting people and amplifying voices that often go unheard. One of the most meaningful things I’ve heard is people telling me that their first experience on a film set was through one of my projects—and that it was a great experience. Being able to introduce others to this art form means everything to me. I hope my creative journey at UNC shows that anyone can achieve anything they set their mind to if they’re willing to put in the work.”
