As we continue to celebrate #UNC25, hear from #UNCgrad Denizhan Kilic about a few of his favorite moments at #UNC.

🎓 Denizhan is originally from Turkey, but now calls Winston-Salem home. This May, he received his bachelor’s in computer science and information science.

🐏 A highlight of his Carolina experience was campus events. “These events gave me the chance to connect with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds and hear their stories. As someone from Turkey, this was especially meaningful. Back in my hometown, I was the only Turkish person at my school, but at UNC, I met other Turkish students for the first time and connected with people from many different cultures. These moments helped me feel a sense of belonging and opened my mind to new perspectives.”

💬 Denizhan’s advice to Tar Heels is to always have a hobby or passion. “Don’t stress too much about classes, finding something you enjoy can make a huge difference. For me, that is solving Rubik’s Cubes. I’ve competed in competitions and run a YouTube channel dedicated to cubing. Whenever I had free time, I used it to focus on this hobby because it made me happy and gave me something to look forward to.”

🩵 After graduating, Denizhan will miss the small moments that made campus feel like home. “I’ll miss drinking from the Old Well on FDOC. I’ll miss walking through the Botanical Garden. I’ll miss hearing the Bell Tower chime. And I’ll especially miss the crossing guard who always asked how my day was as I crossed the street on my way to class. Those simple interactions meant more than she probably knew.”

👣 When asked how he imagines his Heelprint, he said, “I imagine my Heelprint at Carolina being defined by service, leadership and building something meaningful from the ground up. This year, I founded Blossom Together, a student organization dedicated to supporting underserved communities in Africa by building water wells, distributing food packages and funding eye surgeries. Knowing that I helped create a space for students to come together and make a global difference is the Heelprint I’m proud to leave behind.”
