As we continue to celebrate #UNC25, hear from #UNCgrad Neya Garcia about a few of her favorite moments at Carolina. 

🎓 Neya is from Roxboro, North Carolina. This May, Neya received her bachelor’s in political science and human organizational leadership and development with a minor in conflict management. 

🐏 A highlight of her Carolina experience was completing the Buckley Public Service Scholars program. “Through over 600 hours of service, I had the chance to engage deeply with causes I care about. From legal advocacy to educational equity, it grounded my time here in purpose and reminded me that leadership starts with showing up for your community.”

💬 Neya’s advice to Tar Heels is to take the time to explore what matters to you and not be afraid to get involved, even if something feels out of your comfort zone. ‘Some of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had came from saying “yes” before I felt completely ready.’

🩵 Neya will most miss the energy of campus in the fall, the feeling of walking through the Pit during a sunny afternoon and the amazing people who supported her along the way, including friends, professors, and mentors. 

💌  Dear Carolina... “thank you for teaching me to lead with both conviction and compassion. You’ve challenged me, supported me and introduced me to people who’ve shaped the way I see the world.”

👣 When asked how she imagines her Heelprint at Carolina, she said, “I imagine my Heelprint as the imprint of someone who came from a small town with big questions and found the space here to start answering them. I hope I’ve helped carve out space for others like me: students navigating new systems, leading with heart and making Carolina feel a little more like home for the next person who arrives, wondering if they belong.”
