Did you know this popular gesture of celebration and camaraderie, is widely attributed to a moment between Los Angeles Dodgers players Glenn Burke and Dusty Baker?

Here's the story: On October 2, 1977, after Baker hit a home run, Burke, a rookie outfielder, raised his hand in celebration after Baker's home run, and Baker responded by slapping his hand, creating what is considered the first recorded high-five. This is how journalist Jon Mooallem from ESPN tells the story: It was a wild, triumphant moment and a good omen as the Dodgers headed to the playoffs.
