Happy #WorldHippoDay! 

These are Pygmy Hippos, captured on trap cameras in the Gola Rainforest. And yes, they're the same species as superstars Moo Deng and Haggis. 

There are only 2,500 Pygmy Hippos left in the wild, confined to pockets of habitat in just four countries: Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Côte d'Ivoire. 

One of its last strongholds is in the Gola Rainforest which spans the border of Sierra Leone and Liberia. 

It's here the RSPB has been supporting conservation efforts for 30 years, working closely with local partners such as the Conservation Society of Sierra Leone the Society for the Conservation of Nature of Liberia. 

This includes scientific research, a network of local Species Champions, and tackling illegal hunting and mining.
