Never underestimate a wetland!

Happy #WorldWetlandsDay, one and all. These habitats are vital for a whole range of wildlife, including a ton of birds. And not just for locals, either. The wetlands on England's east coast support hundreds of thousands of migrating birds every year. 

~advert voice~ But wait, there's more!

Wetlands are also climate change fighters, storing carbon very quickly - a saltmarsh does it 40x faster than your typical forest. They can even reduce flooding and coastal erosion. Whoa. 

And there's another bonus: they're perfect places for people to connect with nature. You can't put a price on a wetland boardwalk stroll amidst the rustling of reeds, trilling birdsong, and the winter sun. 

That's next weekend's day trip sorted.
