The humble Twite for your consideration.

There's not many places in the UK where they would top your Big Garden Birdwatch count, but that's exactly what happened to naturenortheast back in 2023.

David is a warden at our Oa reserve on the Isle of Islay, Scotland, which sees flocks of Twites visit in winter. With species that many of us would consider 'common' scarce there, the Twite took David's top spot.

We'd have to check the data, but we can't imagine many other counts had this beautiful finch in pole position!
