As we come to the end of the year, it's time to remind ourselves of some of the good news from 2024.

One such story is that of booming Bitterns. This year saw 2023's data published, showing numbers of this bird, once extinct in the UK, on the rise.

The survey recorded 234 male Bitterns booming, a 24% increase from 5 years before!

We're proud to say the conservation work of RSPB staff and volunteers has really paid off, with over half the UK's Bitterns now found on our reserves.

A massive thank you also goes to other volunteers, landowners, and organisations who have played a role in this tremendous achievement.
